Outernet Global's chief Philip Bourchier O’Ferrall has spoken to Music Week about his plans to open three new music venues in central London.
“I hope that we can be a positive beacon as people start to come back,” he said.
The Outernet London district opposite Tottenham Court Road Tube station will include a 2,000-capacity venue, the resurrected and expanded 12 Bar Club, plus an additional 300-capacity venue, alongside immersive media spaces, apartments, recording studio, shops, restaurants and bars.
Outernet's centrepiece in London will be The Now Building, a live interactive broadcast environment boasting Ultra HD, 360° screens to provide the largest LED pixel canvas in the world.
The target for the three music venues is to each host a minimum of 100 gigs a year. Meanwhile The Now Building will be suitable for album launches, film premieres and screenings, along with other media events.
"The commercial reality is that the more credible and honest we can make the ecosystem, the more we can charge brands and therefore have less advertising," O'Ferrall said.
Despite the Covid-19 lockdown, which has placed many smaller venues at risk of closure, Outernet London remains on track for an early 2021 opening.
