Samia Halaby, whose work is included in Electric Dreams, is pioneering Palestinian-American artist known for her abstract, geometric paintings and her exploration of the relationship between art and technology.

Vivid, brightly coloured geometric shapes and slanting lines fill the screen, shifting restlessly in all directions. Halalby calls these moving abstract animations ‘kinetic paintings’.

Reimagined for the giant immersive screens at Outernet, Halaby originally created these works after teaching herself how to code on a Commodore Amiga 1000, one of the first widely available home computers. 

Electric Dreams: Art and Technology Before the Internet is at Tate Modern from 28 November 2024 - 1 June 2025.
