Over £100k has been raised at The Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust event which took place at HERE on 20th September. The event honoured the late entrepreneur and SBTV founder's incredible life and legacy. Edwards was made an MBE for services to music in 2015. He died in February at the age of 31.
Tuesday night’s gala also served as the first fundraiser for the Jamal Edwards Self-Belief Trust, which aims to help young people at risk of homelessness and give them the opportunity to thrive in the media industry. Jamal's mother, Brenda Edwards pledged to continue his work supporting young people. She said:
"His generosity is what we want to continue. He was always about championing young people. That was his main aim."
Artists performing at the event included Ed Sheehan, Jessie Ware, and Lewis Capaldi. Jessie Ware dedicated a cover of her song 'What You Won’t Do For Love' to Edwards.
The event raised over £100k for the trust via a live funds via a live auction, which included a host of money-can’t-buy experiences. After a bidding frenzy, Ed Sheeran was eventually outbid at £18,000 for a meal for two with actor Idris Elba at Porte Noire in King’s Cross.
